Castle Butt stands at the edge of the Rhinns of Galloway, a sharp maritime marker where the North Channel becomes unpredictable. The schooner Williams struck that water in the nineteenth century, joining the endless list of vessels the coast claimed. The sea keeps its own ledger, writing names in salt and forgetting them only when the tide retreats.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Williams: Castle Butt, Rhinns of Galloway, North Channel as Schooner (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
