William Plunket, 5th Baron Plunket, was born in County Dublin, Ireland on 19 December 1864, the son of a Dublin archbishop and a Guinness daughter. He later governed New Zealand from 1904 to 1910, presented the Plunket Shield in 1907, and served as Grand Master of New Zealand's Grand Lodge. His wife Victoria gave her name to the Plunket Society, which still supports mothers and children there.
