This blue commemorative plaque records: D.R.A. Maritime Division. Within this site, established in 1886, is the Ship Tank which was developed from the work of William Froude (1810-79) who carried out the world's first experiments in a tank on ship models. Recorded plaque organisation: Gosport Borough Council.
William Froude was a British engineer and naval architect renowned for pioneering model basin testing to study ship hydrodynamics, significantly advancing maritime engineering. His work laid foundational principles for modern ship design and performance analysis.
