What is recorded here
Whelan's Quarry Cave is a thirty-metre limestone passage hidden beneath Cairn Hill near Ennis, where a steep pitch drops into a chamber choked with ancient collapse. The southern route climbs a sand and gravel slope toward a blank wall, while the northern path forces a crawl through calcite blocks that point back toward the active quarry. This forgotten depth suggests water once carved a much larger system before stone fell to bury the truth.
The Irish Caves Database records Whelan's Quarry Cave at Ballyneilan in County Clare. This point comes from its public cave register. A cave map point does not by itself grant access: check local conditions and ask the landowner where needed.
