Castle Wemyss stands in Wemyss Bay, Inverclyde, a medieval fortress marked on the national record with one-metre precision. The exact point is known even though the history behind the stones has faded. A castle needs people to matter, so perhaps it guarded a harbour, collected a tax or sheltered a family during storms. Its purpose has vanished, but the rock and bay still hold the shape of that forgotten life.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Wemyss Bay, Castle Wemyss as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Castle Wemyss, near Wemyss Bay, was built by the Wemyss family in the 13th century and later held by the Earls of Wemyss, a prominent Scottish noble family. The castle is important as a historic seat of the Wemyss family and for its association with the development of coastal defenses in Fife.
