A weir is mentioned in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as belonging to the town of Cahir (Simington 1931, vol.1, 359). The weir near the bridge and castle at Cahir appears to have belonged to Lord Cahir. The next nearest weir depicted on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map lies c. 1.7km NE of the town, straddling Barnora and Caherabbey Lower townlands, however, the precise location of the 17th-century weir on the River Suir is unknown.
