Weir is a 48m post alignment on the north Shannon bank beside Meelick, set in firm estuarine clay and oriented NNW-SSE. It is a medieval or post-medieval fish trap, the kind of place where patience and tide did the work. People may have stood there at low water, reading the clay for marks, waiting for the river to give up its catch.

On the N bank of the Shannon estuary adjacent to Meelick townland. Described by O’Sullivan (2001, 303) as a medieval or post medieval ‘post alignment (widely spaced posts), oriented NNW-SSE, 48m long, situated in firm, gently sloping estuarine clays on N back of estuary.
