One chamber, little more than a metre long, still wears its roof-stone in a sheltered nook beside a Kerry stream. The northern slabs have fallen inward and the outer wall leans south, yet the western septal stone holds the dark mouth closed. People built this narrow wedge near the sea, perhaps to keep the dead company while the living faced the water.
This rather well-preserved wedge-tomb is situated c. 350m from the sea-shore, in a small sheltered nook adjacent to a stream. It consists of a chamber, 1.21m long, which is covered by a single roof-stone and is closed at its W end by a septal-stone. The S side of the chamber consists of two slabs, outside of which stands an outer wall stone and a small buttress. The two stones forming the N side have collapsed inwards; outside these a single outer-wall stone inclines heavily to S. The chamber decreases in height from its W end. (de Valera and Ó Nuallain 1982, 67-8).
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 80. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
