Freestanding cast-iron water hydrant, installed c.1900, mounted on rubble stone plinth. Square-profile pier with recessed round-head panels, having brass tap to front (north-west) and raised lettering to side (north-east and side south-west) elevations. Pyramidal cap with finial.

An attractive roadside feature, of a diminutive scale, with simple details such as the recessed panels and pyramidal cap with finial enlivening its functional form. Its square-profile differs greatly from the standard pumps and hydrants found throughout the county. The manufacturing company, Merrick, was based in Cork.
