Water mill

According to Doyle (1985, 153-4), 'On the east bank of the Nore, opposite Fennessy's Mill [KK019-050----], there was a mill in the area now known as Quarryland. There is a reference to it in an inquisition held at the Tholsel, Kilkenny, May 6th 1633. It was found that Alderman Nicholas Ley of the city of Waterford, who died December 10th 1585 was seised at the time of his death "Of a moiety of one water mill, 76 acres of arable pasture and furze, a moiety of a fishery and one quarry in the tenement of Phinnell and St. Mallagge". Phinnell and St. Mallagge were the two old parishes of Fennell and Kilmologga, which formed the Manor of Fennell, which was then owned by Philip Purcell of Ballyfoyle'.
