The precise location of a watermill within the townland of Ballinard has not been identified. The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Limerick recorded that Captain Garret FitzGerald of Ballinard was the main proprietor of the townland in which there were, 'fourteene cabins & a Mill Seate upon it' (Simington 1938, 112).
