In the process of cutting a field drain in 2009 four large worked oak timbers were discovered. Three of the timbers, which were flat-topped with tapered ends, were very similar in size and shape (c. 2m x 0.3m x 0.12m). The fourth, more damaged timber, was larger and had a large tenon carved at one end. Subsequent excavation (License 09E0416) revealed that the in situ remains comprised of the four floorboards and sole plate of the mill's undercroft.
