The keep looms over rooftops like a forgotten giant, its shadow stretching across fields where Percy horses once drank. King John dined here in 1213, laughing at maps while Robert fitz Richard poured ale, unaware the castle would outlive every dynasty that claimed it. The river still bends around the ruins, carrying water that has cooled a thousand fevers and drowned a thousand secrets.
