Wall monument in Portlecka

Situated against the N wall of a small chapel abutting the S wall of Ruan church (CL025-070001-). A chest tomb comprising large limestone blocks over which is a plaque with an inscription in Roman capitals that reads first in English ‘This chapel and tomb were erected by Donogh O’Kerine, the son of Dermot O’Kerine of Owan, for him and his posterities use in the year of our Lord God 1688’ and then in Latin 'Enmors ante fores mu/ndi! si queris honores, cri/mina deplores. Pro me te/ deprecor ores' which translates as 'Behold Death standing in front of the portals of the World! If you seek honours, repent your crimes. I entreat you to pray for me.'
