Portlecka Castle stands in ruins in County Clare, Ireland, preserving the stark lines of a tower house rather than a grand palace. It is the kind of place where stone walls still touch the sky while roofs have long since vanished, inviting imagination to fill the empty chambers.

Portlecka Castle was built in the late 16th or early 17th century by a member of the Ó Briain (O'Brien) family, the Gaelic lords of Thomond. It is remembered as an example of a defensive tower house constructed during a period of political instability in the region.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
