Wall monument in Kilfenora

Set into the N wall of the chancel of Kilfenora Cathedral (CL016-015002-). A limestone plaque with an incised Latin inscription in Roman capitals commemorating Neptune Blood, son of the Revd. Neptune (Dean of Finebor [Kilfenora?]), his wife Isabella (aged 13, d. 1683), his children Elizabeth (age 6), John (aged 5), Debora (aged 9), Theodosia (aged 13), William (aged 16), Lepedus Neptunus (aged 7), all who died between 1688 and 1700. The inscription translates as ‘Man as the flower groweth up and passes away as a shadow, thus silently have passed even the dear pledges of love to parents whose sorrowful hearts are tortured with grief.
