Violet Gibson was born in County Dublin, Ireland, in 1876, the daughter of Lord Ashbourne. She attempted to assassinate Mussolini in Rome in 1926, but a misfire and police intervention ended the danger before she faced a court. She spent her remaining years in an English psychiatric hospital, carrying the weight of that single failed act long after the world stopped discussing it.
