Uskerty Bridge

Single-arch rubble limestone road bridge over river, c.1800. Repaired, c.1950. Random rubble limestone walls with squared rubble limestone coping to parapets having sections of replacement unpainted render, c.1950, incorporating bas-relief detailing. Single round arch with dressed limestone voussoirs, and rendered soffits. Sited spanning Dinin River with grass banks to river.

An elegantly-appointed modest-scale bridge representing an important element of the late eighteenth- or early nineteenth-century civil engineering legacy of County Kilkenny. Exhibiting a traditional construction in unrefined rubble stone with cut-limestone dressings the bridge makes a pleasing, if subtle visual statement in a rural setting.
