U-776: North Channel

Submarine (20th Century)

What is recorded here

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records U-776: North Channel as Submarine (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
U-776 was a German U-boat, part of the Type VIIC class, sunk in 1945 during the final stages of World War II. It was lost in the North Channel, likely as a result of collision or mine strike, with no crew survivors recorded; its wreck remains an important wartime maritime relic in Scottish waters.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
