U-40: North Sea

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records U-40: North Sea as Submarine (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

U-40 was a German U-boat commissioned in 1909 and lost in the North Sea on 23 May 1915 after striking a mine. It sank with all 35 crew members, resulting in no survivors; the wreck remains an important site for understanding early submarine warfare in World War I.
