Tumulus is an oval cairn in North Cork pasture, holding a small stone cist where a hawthorn still grows. Cattle may have grazed it flat or people may have taken its stones for walls, yet the four upright markers remain beside a loose slab. The mound is small enough to walk around in a minute, but it has watched the same slope since before writing reached Ireland.

Included in the 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork - vol. 4 North Cork' (2000) under the entry for a cist (CO013-035----): In pasture, on NE-facing slope. Oval cairn (4.2m E-W; 2.4m N-S; H 0.67m) with cist at W end; slab at E end. Low crescent-shaped area of cairn material on S side may indicate larger mound originally. According to Bowman (1934, 442) 'levelled; traces of the circular fence may still be seen'. Cist consists of square area enclosed by 4 upright stones (0.54m x 0.68m; 0.88m x 0.9m; 0.6m x 1.4m; Wth 0.6m); hawthorn in centre. According to Bowman (1934, 442) 'stone which covered the cist lies nearby, it measures 3ft by 2ft 10in by 3in'; possibly stone at E end of cairn (0.4m x 0.36m x 0.05m) although dimensions differ. Tumulus, Cappaphaudeen is a Bronze Age cairn with an associated cist, dating to approximately 2000–800 BCE. Its significance lies in its inclusion in the Archaeological Inventory of County Cork, indicating its value as a prehistoric burial or ritual site in the region.
