What is recorded here
North Lodge still stands as a gate lodge in West Dunbartonshire, its exact purpose obscured by time. It may have marked the entrance to a grand estate, controlled who passed through, or simply watched the road with stone patience. The castle itself has vanished or been renamed, leaving the lodge behind like a sentence missing its beginning.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Tullichewan Castle, North Lodge as Gate Lodge (period Unassigned), Gate Pier (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
