Balloch Castle is a country park mansion built in 1808 by John Buchanan of Ardoch, who stripped the older 1238 castle for stone. The old castle belonged to the Earls of Lennox before they fled to Inchmurrin for safety, leaving behind a mound and a moat depression beside the loch. The new castle passed through Gibson Stott and the Dennistoun-Brown family before Glasgow Corporation bought it in 1914 to draw tram passengers. It now stands inside Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, holding two ages of ambition in one address.

Balloch Castle, located near the village of Balloch in West Dunbartonshire, was originally built in the 13th century by the MacFarlane family, who were hereditary keepers of Dumbarton Castle. The site is historically significant as it is associated with the ancient Kingdom of Dál Riata and later played a role in the strategic defense of the Clyde estuary.
