Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill was born in Kells, County Meath, in 1953, the daughter of a musical family whose roots reached back to the Rann na Feirste Gaeltacht. She grew up surrounded by song, her paternal aunt Neillí contributing nearly three hundred folk tunes to a university collection while Tríona learned the shapes of melody before she could name them. That childhood noise later became the voice of Skara Brae and the Bothy Band, carrying Irish tradition into modern rooms without losing its edge.
