Tobermurry

Holy well

What is recorded here

Tobermurry is a holy well in County Meath, Ireland. It marks a ritual place where water and memory still touch, though its exact history has not yet been written into the public record. The well stands as a quiet invitation to wonder what prayers, healings or losses it has witnessed, and what the water has carried away. Its absence from the open record does not diminish it; it preserves the mystery that makes holy wells worthy of attention.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV). Tobermurry Well in Follistown is traditionally associated with Saint Mury or Murtagh, a lesser-known early Irish saint. The well was historically visited for its supposed healing properties, particularly for skin ailments and fertility issues, with rituals often involving the immersion of coins or the making of offerings.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
