What is recorded here

Tobermogue is a lost holy well in County Cavan, Ireland. The earth swallowed its basin and human memory dismissed its name, leaving only a ghost on official charts. What looked like forgetting may have been transformation, with the water moving underground to keep working outside human sight.
Marked on all OS eds. It has been infilled and there are no surface remains at ground level. Davies (1948, 95) recorded that 'it's name given on the OS has been locally forgotten'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
