What is recorded here
Thomas Pakenham, 5th Earl of Longford, charged his yeomanry across a dry salt lake at Suvla on 21 August 1915, capturing Green Hill before bullets took him. His body never returned, leaving only a memorial marker where the charge broke. The earldom passed to his sons, but the hill keeps the sharper edge of that day.
