What is recorded here

Thomas Hunter, born in Ardglass, County Down, Ireland in 1831, became the founder of the first free teachers college in the United States and the president of the first publically supported college for women in America. He removed the child's fear of being beaten from public education for good, leaving an indelible mark on New York City manhood and womanhood. Three hundred former students gathered in 1913 to present him with a loving cup, acknowledging the great educator who had inspired them more than a half-century before.
