Thiepval barracks bombing

Thiepval barracks in Lisburn housed the British Army headquarters for Northern Ireland, making it a prime target during the Troubles. On 7 October 1996, the Provisional IRA struck with two car bombs, killing one soldier and wounding twenty-one soldiers plus ten civilians. The explosion tore through the building and nearby streets, reminding everyone that the war had not stopped merely because peace talks began.
