The Friendship Tree was planted in 1977 by Dr. L.M. Singvhu, High Commissioner for India, in the presence of Nottingham's Lord Mayor, Councillor Vernon Gapper, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth and to symbolise Indo-British friendship. It serves as a lasting reminder of cultural and diplomatic ties between India and the UK.
