An ivy-enveloped "rustic lodge" not only contributing positively to the group and setting values of the The Deeps estate, but also illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate in the early nineteenth century with the architectural value of the composition, one erected to a pattern book design for a "Rustic Lodge" published in "Retreats" (1827) by James Thomson (1800-83) of London, confirmed by such attributes as the polygonal plan form centred on a restrained doorcase; and the decorative timber work embellishing the roofline.
