Templemacduagh

In a slight hollow 180m NW of Teampall na Naomh (GA110-073001-). This Nat. Mon. is known locally as Teampall Mac Duach. Three construction phases are evident: (a) an E. Chr. oratory (E-W; L 5.7m, Wth 4.4m) with antae and a trabeate doorway at W; (b) a chancel added at E (L 4.8m, Wth 3.85m), its arch inserted between original antae; (c) battlemented parapets added to top of N and S walls of chancel. The nave is lit by two windows in S wall, the chancel by a window in S wall and a transitional E window. There is a slab with an animal motif on the outer face of wall at NW corner. A cross-inscribed pillar (GA110-044005-) stands to W (Higgins 1987, vol. 2, 374, no. 94), a pillar-stone (GA110-077----) to N, and a holy well (GA110-044003-) to SSW. There is also a possible Man-made underground passage (GA110-044004-) in the vicinity. Templemacduagh, Cill Mhuirbhigh was likely built by an early Christian community, with its original oratory dating to the 6th or 7th century. The church is dedicated to St. Murbach and exhibits early Irish monastic features, reflecting the region’s long-standing Christian tradition.
