This brown commemorative plaque records: Site of Temple In The Grove c700 AD. A few metres south east of this plaque stood the original temple in the yew tree grove, "Weo-Lea", in Anglo-Saxon which gave Wellington its name Recorded plaque organisation: Rotary Club of Wellington.
Temple In The Grove was an early medieval religious site established around 700 AD; it stood within a yew tree grove and its location contributed to naming the nearby area Wellington.
