Swinford Railway Station

Detached three-bay double-height goods shed, commissioned 1895; extant 1895. Decommissioned, 1975. Now disused. Pitched slate roof on King post timber construction extending into lean-to slate roof on timber spandrels on drag edged tooled cut-limestone corbels with clay ridge tiles terminating in red brick Running bond chimney stack (south-west) having corbelled stepped capping supporting yellow terracotta pot, rooflights to platform (north-west) pitch, timber bargeboards to gables on timber purlins, and remains of cast-iron rainwater goods on timber eaves boards on overhanging exposed timber rafters. Tuck pointed snecked rock faced limestone walls with red brick flush quoins to corners. Series of three segmental-headed openings with red brick block-and-start surrounds framing timber boarded or tongue-and-groove timber panelled sliding doors. Set in unkempt grounds shared with Swinford Railway Station.

A dilapidated goods shed contributing positively to the group and setting values of the Swinford Railway Station complex. A prolonged period of neglect notwithstanding, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric: a projected "restoration", however, may determine the ongoing architectural heritage status of the composition.
