Sweathouse in Cornageeha (drumahaire By.)

Reported (4-10-2021) by Mr Aidan Harte, Project Co-ordinator, Leitrim Sweathouse Project. Not recorded on Ordnance Survey mapping. On a gentle, wooded W-facing slope, c. 15m NW of some derelict dwellings. Another sweathouse (LE018-070----) stands c. 560m to the E. A drystone built, D-shaped structure (int. dims. L 1.83m; Wth 1.47m; int. H 1.63m; ext. H 1.8m) is entered at NW via a small, slightly funnel-shaped opening (ext. dims. Wth 0.47m; H 0.53m; int. dims. Wth 0.47m; H 0.65m; L 0.52m). The roof is A-shaped, formed by a single stone lintel, acting as a beam, which rests on a pillar at W, and supports inclined lintels on either side: see attached photo. While currently in very good condition, a small tree is beginning to damage the roof.
