Sweat Ho.

Situated on a W-facing slope, c. 40m from a N-S stream in an overgrown area. Depicted and named ‘Sweat House’ on the Cassini edition of the O.S. 6-inch map, with the nearest houses shown c. 150m to N and c. 200m to the S. Not recorded on the earlier, 19th century first edition of the map. Unlocated when inspected by the ASI in 1991, and believed locally to have been removed. However, the site was subsequently identified and reported (28-9-2021) by Mr Aidan Harte, Project Co-ordinator, Leitrim Sweathouse Project. Built into an earthen field boundary near the foot of a SW-slope, in pasture, c.10m SE of a small, S-flowing stream. A sub-circular (diams. 1.64m by 1.45m) drystone built chamber with a corbelled roof (int. H: 1.96m; ext. H 2.15m), from which one roofing corbel has fallen into the interior. A low, narrow entrance (H 0.45m; W 0.62m; D 0.5m) at ground level faces NW, towards the stream, and is set in a slightly concave façade. The monument survives in good condition, though is partially overgrown at SE. Radiocarbon dates are awaited.
