What is recorded here

Fifty-six centimetres of wood, eight across, lies broken on an Offaly field. The Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit, University College, Dublin measured it in 1994 and declined to call it a monument. Caimin O'Brien and Paul Walsh revised that judgement in May 2011. The numbers leave a hole beside them: a wooden chamber, a gate, a lever, a cradle, or a child's first scaffolding.

A degraded and milled roundwood (L 0.56m; diam. 0.08m) on the field surface. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1994. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
