Structure

A dispersed deposit of fragmentary mixed brushwood (L 0.3m max.), twigs and a stake (L 3.9m; Wth 2.2m; D 0.1m min.). The site is very disturbed and may represent the remains of a more substantial structure. A single stake is located on the N side of the site and there is a small concentration of twigs on the S side. Two degraded worked ends, a wedge point and a chisel point, are evident on the stake and a piece of brushwood, respectively. The wood is in poor condition and set in well-humified Sphagnum peat with some Eriophorum and ericaceous remains. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 2001. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
