Structure in Ballynacarriga (imokilly By., Youghal Par.)

This structure was excavated within an enclosure (CO067-087----) at Ballynacarriga in 2001 during advance work on the N25 Youghal Bypass. The structure (diam. c. 5.1m) was roughly circular in plan and of slot-trench construction (Wth c. 0.22-0.27m ; D c. 0.05-0.11m) and was best preserved along the N, E and W arcs. A break (Wth 2.2m) in the trench along the S arc suggests a possible entrance location. Two internal post-holes (diam. 0.28m; D 0.25m), 1m apart, may have contained posts to support a roof. Six external post-holes (diam. 0.26m; D 0.24m) may have contained wall supports. There was no evidence of a hearth or finds from excavated deposits.
