Structure in Balgatheran

Discovered prior to road construction (Excavation Licence No. 00E0905). A rectangular building (3.7m x 3.2m) defined by four substantial post-pits, three of which displayed evidence for burning, with an entrance at the SE and a small hearth in the centre. This structure and four others (see LH021-080----, LH021-081----, LH021-082---- and LH021-083----) appeared to have both domestic and ritual functions. A large assemblage of artefacts was recovered from the area of the five structures including 238 sherds of Grooved Ware which represented at least 23 individual pots, 30 flint scrapers, a large collection of flint débitage, a fragment of a polished stone axe and a small quantity of burnt bone.
