What is recorded here

Gateway, extant 1903, on a symmetrical plan including spear head-detailed cast-iron double gates with cut-granite monolithic outer piers on benchmark-inscribed chamfered plinths supporting spear head-detailed cast-iron railings. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Strandfield.
A gateway making a pleasing, if increasingly forlorn visual statement in Spa Well Road at the entrance on to the grounds of the Strandfield estate: meanwhile, a benchmark remains of additional interest for the connections with cartography and the preparations of maps by the Ordnance Survey (established 1824).

This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
