Stone sculpture

Stone sculpture, iconic

What is recorded here

Two stone heads, slightly larger than life size, possibly male and female, were kept at a farmyard but are now in the National Museum of Ireland. One has a whistle hole, indicating an Iron Age date, while both have had glass pupils inserted. (Roche 1986, 33) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload 19 August, 2013
Likely dating to the Iron Age, the stone heads may have had ritual or symbolic significance, possibly representing deities, ancestors, or territorial markers. The presence of a whistle hole suggests a possible use in ceremonies or as a warning device.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
