Stone (1924) stands on a gently sloping ridge in County Limerick pasture, facing west, north and east, with a ring-barrow 140m to the southwest. It appeared only as “stone” on the Cassini map, resisted every later survey, and vanished from every modern image. The land may have swallowed it, or the sky may have simply stopped showing it. Either way, the ridge keeps one secret it never gave up.

On a gently sloping ridge in pasture with excellent views to the W, N and E, 750m NE of the townland boundary with Dollas. Ring-barrow (LI030-016----) located 140m to SW. The site is not depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map nor is it depicted on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map. It is annotated ‘stone’ on the Cassini ed. OSi 6-inch map. The site is visible as a small oval enclosure in pasture on the OSi orthoimage taken 2005-12 (ext. dims. c. 16m N-S; 19m E-W); it is not visible on the Digital Globe orthoimages taken 2011-2013. Neither the stone nor enclosure is visible on the Google Earth orthoimages taken 05/02/2009; 31/12/2016 or 28/06/2018.
