What is recorded here

A ringed granite cross in a Ballymore Eustace graveyard still carries a medieval shape, yet a later hand carved AMEN, NORTH CROSS ERECTED IN 1689 BY AM WALL, IHS around its west face. The cross had leaned so far that it needed lifting again, and beneath it people found a crudely shaped boulder, loose socket, soil, an old iron key and scraps of earlier life. It is less a polished monument than a place where centuries kept interrupting one another.

According to Bradley et al. (1986, vol. 1, 79) it stands in a graveyard (KD029-011004-), to N of a 19th-century church. A roughly shaped granite Latin cross (dims. H 1.67m; Wth across arms 0.4m; T 0.15m) of uncertain date. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 30 August 2013
