Stapleford Castle is a Norman motte-and-bailey earthwork in Wiltshire, built after the Conquest of 1066. Its remote location and lack of later stone development preserved the original earthwork, making it a clear example of early Norman military architecture. The mound and bailey still mark the ground where soldiers watched the countryside, while the surrounding chalk landscape has kept the shape intact for centuries.
