Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Standing Stones, Outend, Scalpay as Standing Stone (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Dated to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, the standing stone at Outend, Scalpay, likely served a ceremonial or ritual function, possibly linked to astronomical alignments or territorial markers. Local folklore sometimes associates such stones with ancient giants or protective spirits.
