The White Stone in County Derry is a prehistoric standing stone, recognised and protected as a scheduled monument even though its exact age remains uncertain. It still stands where people first set it, marking land that has been walked, farmed and forgotten for centuries. Its whiteness may have been paint, lichen or simply the pale stone itself, but the contrast would have made it visible from a distance.
