Standing stone (present location) in Lerrig North

This stone has been moved from its original position westwards to a nearby fieldbank. It is marked on the 1841-42 and 1898 OS maps as 'Gallaun'. According to the Kerry Field Club Notes (1943) there was a small hole about an inch in diameter at the base of the stone; this cannot be seen today. Markings which may be ogham are displayed on the E and W face. This granite standing stone rises to a height of 2.25m, .45m wide, .5m thick. It is thought to have marked a burial ground.
