What is recorded here

Maulin’s lower slopes hold a small standing stone above Berehaven Harbour, witnessed since before human memory and still standing after repeated land clearance. It measures about 1.1 metres high and 0.5 metres across, yet it has survived being shifted twenty metres during reclamation because the field itself kept returning it to notice. People may have set it as a marker, a tribute or a warning; the stone no longer needs explanation. It still points downward through soil, rain and forgetting, waiting for someone reckless enough to listen.

In reclaimed pasture, on the lower S-facing slopes of Maulin overlooking Berehaven Harbour and Bere Island. This standing stone (0.5m x 0.5m; H 1.1m) was recorded in its original location (CO115-099----) in 1993 (SMR File). It was subsequently moved c. 20m to the SW, to the S boundary of the field, during land reclamation works. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
