Standing stone

In an expanse of rough, heather-covered bog, strewn with boulders and broken by rock-outcropping, located at the top of broad, relatively flat-topped knoll or rise, with extensive views in all directions. Three lakes, Lough Nambrackkeagh, Middle Lough and Crocknacloy Lough are located within a few hundred meters to NW, W and S respectively. The far horizon is defined at NW by the Nephin Mountain and the Nephin Beg Range and at NE by the Ox Mountains. This stone pair consists of a large upright earth-fast boulder (L 1.3m NNE−SSW; Wth 0.8m; H 1.3m) with a sloping top which rises gently from NNE to SSW, and a prostrate stone (L 2.25m E−W; Wth c. 1.3m; T 0.3m) which is located 1.2m to N, with its long axis perpendicular to that of the upright stone. The S side of the prostrate stone is partly embedded in the ground; the higher N side appears to rest on a few small horizontal stones, creating a small space (H 0.35m) beneath the stone.
